The ACT Government wants to reduce the extent to which vulnerable people, especially people with disabilities are subject to restrictive practices and is establishing an Office of Senior Practioner.

PWD ACT and JFA Purple Orange invite you to a consultation on an ACT Government proposal to regulate the use of restrictive practices against people with disabilities.

‘Restrictive practices’ refers to activities that some human services use to support a person, but which remove some freedoms from that person.  Restrictive practices can include time-out, locked doors, physical
restraints, mechanical restraints, some types of medication, and others.

People who are subjected to restrictive practices can include children living with psychological trauma, people living with disability, people living with mental illness, and older people.

The ACT Government wants to know what types of restrictive practices are ok and in what circumstances.

Consultation Date: Monday 27 February 2017, 11:00am – 1:00pm

Venue: Griffin Centre, Room 6, 20 Genge Street, Canberra, ACT 2601
