EVENT: Saturday 3 December 2016, 2:00pm – 4:00pmIGNITE & FRIENDS is the official I-day event of the ACT, being a collaboration with People With Disabilities ACT and the launch of the Canberra Times supplement Let’s Talk about Disability, with the Minister for Disability Rachel Stephen-Smith in attendance. The event will be a showcase of creativity of many art forms, celebrating what people with disability can achieve. Included in this event will be artists from Belconnen Arts Centre, Tuggeranong Arts Centre, Canberra Dance Theatre and our local community.

This event will include an exhibition of work and panel discussion with artists from the year-long IGNITE: Alternative Arts Academy at BAC, who also feature in the special I-Day Canberra Times supplement. The multi-faceted IGNITE program provides diverse arts development training and opportunities that enable participants with disabilities to create self-directed works of art in a diversity of mediums. This afternoon is the time to shine for many of the participating artists in the program, and a chance to share their pride and achievements with family, friends and members of the broader public.

Additionally we welcome dancers from the ACT Parkinson’s Dance Group, dancers from Feel the Music program at BAC, the CDTeens from Canberra Dance Theatre, musicians Simon Milman & Matthew Lustri, and the Alzheimers ACT Choir Alchemy Chorus.

Music, champagne and nibbles will start us off from 2pm.
